Old Gold loses to Newport

June 11, 2009

It was a day to be enjoyed, even if the outcome wasn’t very favorable for us. We had a number of old faces come back together, as well as some newbies donning the black n gold for their 1st time. This mix of inexperience led

to some fundamental breakdowns in our defense, allowing Newport to skate through for some tries that normally wouldn’t have occurred. Newport played well however, and with good communication and hard running, they earned a well deserved victory. Thanks again to NRFC for the outstanding sportsmanship and hospitality extended. On the upside, we had some brilliant play from flyhalf Jason Caron, whose wiley running style frustrates every team we come across. Also needing a round of applause is MOTM, Merrimack fullback Dan Moran, who slashed the opposing defense a number of times with hard cut running and some brilliant defensive plays.
