2007 Youth Rugby Schedule

Old Gold RFC is one of a number of Boston based rugby union clubs that has joined forces with the Boston Centers for Youth and Families (BCYF) to support the development of a Youth Rugby Program in Boston during the summer of 2005. Details of this program are:

PLAYERS

Start and End Time: 9:30am - 11:00am (1.5 hours)

Start and End Dates: Saturday June 25 through to Saturday August 6th (attend one or all sessions - its up to you!)

Location: Columbus Park (also known as Moakley Park), South Boston.

Eligibility: Any child, boys and girls, from 7 - 14 years of age.

Equipment: For playing - shorts, t-shirt, sneakers or plastic soccer cleats.
When off-field - hat, water, sun screen, towel, snack.

Cost: Free.

The objective of this program is to provide a fun and instructive introduction to the game of rugby union for young people in the Boston area. Participants will be taught the basics of the game of rugby union in a non-contact, mixed gender, fun, environment. Specific skills that will be taught include:
- general ball handling skills,
- running with the ball
- passing the ball,
- teamwork,
- sportsmanship

COACHES

Interested in helping to coach Youth Rugby ?

Commitment: 2 hours per Saturday (you can volunteer for as few as 1 or as many as 6 of the program days)

Knowledge & Skills: Must enjoy working with young people, specific drills we will be using can be found here The program will be non-contact (touch and flag rugby). We will be basing the program, generally, on the Morris (NJ) Youth Rugby program. An outline of the Morris program is attached.
